Rocket

Rocket
A gunpowder-based rocket that was already being used in China as a weapon of war came to India toward the close of the 13th century with its Persian name hawai. In the second half of the 14th century, hawai were being used in the Delhi sultanate as well as Bahmani kingdom for military purposes. With its in-creased effectiveness, this weapon came to be used widely during the 15th century. It subsequently acquired a new name, ban, the use of which by Indians in the 18th century is recorded by the officers of the English East India Company. These descriptions were available to Congreve when he designed his rocket.
